Persephone’s Awakening was established on April 12, 2005 to provide an avenue for customers to design their own purses and handbags.

After a period of sporadic enthusiam whereby I challenged myself to make 30 Bags in 30 Days (you can follow that adventure here), I tired of the original handbag design that I formerly used, and started experimenting with other crafts.

I’ve since picked up quilting, artistic crochet, repurposed sweaters (ah, saving mother earth by reincarnating goods), and yes, I do still design a handbag or two, but they have taken on a rather different approach. Now I view them as a work of art, not merely a form of income.

You can expect that your item is made with creativity, devotion, and love, rather than “must-get-this-purse-done” drive. You can also count on the fact that your item will be made with a mix of repurposed items (thrifted sheets, sweaters, felt, etc) and vintage buttons or ribbon that come right from my Nana’s collection. It’s a beautiful thing.
