Candace + Anders’ Gift: Colour Inspiration, originally uploaded by jnmerrit.
It’s that time of year - YULE SEASON! This year I took the Handmade Pledge, so I’m either making all my gifts, or buying them handmade. (Speaking of which, I need to get my mom’s present soon from LUSH).
Anyway, I’ve decided to make a quilt for my dear someday-to-be-sister-in-law and her rockin’ Danish hubby. I asked them for their favourite colours, and they came up with… ready for it?
Lavendar
Light Grass Green
Sun Yellow
Huh? I was not visualizing hip things in my mind. I saw toddler room colours, or stuffy craft show glue-gunned things. Tole painting. IT WAS A NIGHTMARE (for a brief moment). I decided to clarify - make sure they knew that they’d be getting a big piece of Lavendar, Light Grass Green, and Sun Yellow. And to make matters clearer, I put together a mosaic from Flickr (love these mosaics!).
Well guess what? I like the colour-scheme now. It’s funky, it’s fresh, it’s TOTALLY Candace and Anders (pronounced AN-EZ). I can dig it! And I believe I have quite a few pieces of fabric to use for this combination, so that means fewer $$ spent on fabric (I KNEW the stash was there for a reason!).
Now my issue is thus… what quilting pattern to use? Am I ready for the Log Cabin? Should I stick to the Scrappy because it whips up so quickly? Then there is the pattern from Carolyn that I could use. Or there’s this one by Meshell that I like too.
Do you have any other suggestions? I don’t want little tiny pieces to piece… What say you, quilt-experts?
I need your input!

I’ve been thinking on this too, as I purchased some blues, browns, and greens to start a new quilt for my mom. I need a classy pattern and am not sure where to find it. I like the citrus salad, but I’m not sure how it would look in a dark colorway.

I like “the scrappy” or “meshell’s” quilts. I think you’re brilliant for putting together all the inspiration colours first, so you can stay on track while picking out the patterns. Very nice.

I still haven’t started that quilt. I need to finish my “4 year” quilt before I start another one. I just pulled that out this weekend. I was further along than I thought, so that’s good.
