Corners of my Home 3 - The Craft Room

This afternoon after returning from the craft show, my plans were to sew. Sew handbags, aprons, make button necklaces, and create a gajillion things for the next show - Festival of Crafts - November 4/5. As usually happens, I was overtaken by the urge to procrastinate, and developed no new additions to my collection of items to sell. Instead, I finally organized my craft room. I justified it with the reasoning that in order to create something beautiful, I must be in a beautiful space, just as to study for an exam, it is easier to focus in a clean space. I am quite happy with the result of my cleaning job, and I discovered a gift certificate on my bulletin board that expires in November, so good things came from today!

Here are some photos from my adventure.

Craft room 3
View as you walk in the door.

Button shelf

My shelf!! On top, canning jars from Value Village - pleased to say theywere only .49 cents each! I filled them with ribbon, a la PosyGetsCosy. Next shelf - jars of buttons and my pillow cases - they are destined to grow into aprons one day! Next shelf - jeans for denim quilts and my patterns. Bottom shelf: Bobby’s quilt, a box of buttons, embroidery things (including the Stitch It! Kit) and a box of cards.

Craft room 2

The shelf as per above. On the floating shelf is a bunch of former salad boxes my mom saved for me - she eats a LOT of lettuce! They have fabric in them organized by colour. Then there’s the cupboard with stuff in it, and the twisty turvey shelf from Zellers with my lining fabric in it.

Craft room 5
Another view from the door - this time facing the clock (2.99 @ the Superstore!) Can you see my sewing machine?
Craft room 4

My sewing machine is right there! I was inspired by Wisecraft re: the cover. It’s a shirt of mine that a friend had given me, but while shopping at work once, the grocery cart left grease stains on it. Do you see my aprons blowing in the wind along the ceiling?

Craft room 1
What’s this? Another view from the door! The fabric shelf, the other fabric shelf (my linings), the former kitchen cupboard turned mish-mosh cupboard. In the frame is the poem ‘Carabosse.‘ I love it!
Fabric shelf
Fabric shelf! The sweaters on top are destined to become… wool things. You know, scarfettes, scarves, etc. Then there is a lot of fabric. More fabric but bigger pieces (sheets), craft books and my totebag that I use to lug around my lunch. yes I did make it! Bottom shelf - fabric I will be using for my own quilt!

Well, that about finishes the tour of my sewing/craft room. I’m very happy that it’s finished! Tuesday I’ll work on some stuff.

Ciao bella!

Jen

  • I love hearing familliar stores as Zellers and Superstore. I like Superstore more because they have better clearance prices!
What a wonderful craft room! And it’s so clean!! I’m so green with envy. I have to share my crafting space with my bedroom. I’ve got a major intervention I’m about to stage with that room. Stay tuned for the major overhaul! (No renovations, just prettifying things and organizing.)

  • Gosh your craft room is so neat and tidy, great space to work in.

  • I don’t know where to post this comment, so I write it there. First, I’m French, so my english is very bad!!!! Sorry!! But, I really wanted to add ma point of view about your blog. In fact, I saw a creation of you on the forum ” craftster “, and I’m here! I really like your univers, it’s full of colors, I don’t find the words, it’s not easy to translate what I want to say in english ;)
I add this blog in my favorite, I will come again here… I wish you a lots of beautiful creations!!!
    Bye

  • Hi Jen!
You craft room is fantastic! I’m so jealous. I’m severely inept when it comes to cleanliness. The desk that I’m sitting at right now as I type this comment to you is a disaster area. I honestly can’t see the surface of my desk. It’s really pathetic. And speaking of procrastination…I’m the queen and you can’t take that away from me ;-)!
    Later…

  • That looks great! Wow, I wish we had room for me to have my own craft room here. I love the aprons on the wall - great idea!

  • Oh my gosh… I love your craft room! I seriously miss sitting down and cross stitching or making beaded jewellery… *sighs*

  • Oh crap, I just got drool all over my keyobard. ‘Scuse me. That is one hot craft room. I just love peeking in and seeing peoples craft rooms, its so pretty! Color galore. And the cans of color ribbon…opps, there goes that drool.

  • There is far too much to comment on these amazing photos. But of course I was drawn to the aprons hanging on the wall. Were you the one who suggested it for my kitchen? Someone did but I can’t remember who. I love the idea and plan to use it. I also love the color of green on your walls. Reminds me of apples.
